Jaipur Is known as The Pink City because of the terra cotta painting of all the buildings (so it's really orange but don't tell the locals that). We toured the City Palace built by the Maharajah in 1727 (well actually, he didn't build it himself but he had tons of help) and the Jantar Mantar, a collection of astronomical instruments built 200 years ago. It was all quite impressive. Jaipur is also known for its gemstones and is considered the craft capital of India. Yes, we bought tons and tons of them as gifts for our children, family and friends. Lastly, we took the elephant ride to the top of a hill where the Amber Fort was built. After returning to our hotel to enjoy a cup of tea and a wonderful Indian foot massage, I felt like the Maharincess of Franistan (ref. to I Love Lucy episode).
